Chris Smart

Christopher Smart was interviewed on November 24, 2025, at Robot Monster Guitars, located at 609 East Dewey. Christopher talked to us about growing up in the city’s early punk and new wave scene beginning around 1979, when few venues would host that kind of music, leading bands to play in dive bars, gay clubs, and makeshift spaces. His shared how his bands Lung Overcoat, previously Platform of Youth, and 13 grew alongside San Antonio’s evolving underground scene from post‑punk into the indie rock of the 1990s. Christopher recalled the legendary  Ramones’ 1981 show at Randy’s Rodeo as a defining moment that revealed a broader punk community.
