Robert Esparza

Robert Esparza was interviewed on August 15, 2025, at his family-owned shop, Janie’s Record Shop, located at 1012 Bandera Rd. The shop is named after his mom, Janie Esparza. She started the business in 1985 by traveling to different places and picking up records she thought were special and valuable. After Janie passed away, Robert kept his mom’s dream alive and used the shop to bring the community together through their love of music. When you walk into Janie’s Record Shop, Robert greets you like family and shares his knowledge about San Antonio music, from Tejano and Conjunto to his own favorite styles of music.
